We put things off. The oil change. The dental cleaning. Taxes. We put these tasks on our “I’ll deal with it next week” to-do list.
Including— tending to our health.
The chronic hip pain, the stiff lower back, the tension headache that comes and goes but never really goes away. We tell ourselves “it’s nothing. I’ll do it later.” Until “later” becomes “now,” and “now” involves more pain, more time, and often more cost.
At BackMenders, I see a lot of patients who after the first visit say, “I should’ve done this sooner.” Whether it’s a persistent ache or an injury that still just ain’t right, the truth is: the longer you wait, the harder your body has to work to recover. All the while, you’re in pain.
I can assure you, your body keeps score. And while it’s incredibly resilient, it also appreciates timely attention. Ignored infla
mmation can lead to compensation patterns—that’s when one area of your body overworks to make up for another that’s not functioning properly. It’s your body’s version of “just getting through it,” and while it helps in the short term, it often leads to new pain, poor movement habits, and long-term wear and tear.
Why We Wait
Life is busy. We’re taking care of kids, running businesses, meeting deadlines, and doing our best to keep it all together. It’s easy to let self-care slide when it feels like “one more thing to do.” But ignoring pain doesn’t make it go away—it just teaches your body to deal with it. And it will… until it can’t. And that’s not a long-term strategy.
The Real Cost of Procrastination
Putting off care can lead to:
- Longer recovery times
- More complex treatment plans
- Increased risk of re-injury
- Missed work or playtime with the people who matter
And quite often, “deal with it” means you’ll be leaning harder on Advil, or prescriptions.
A Better Way Forward
You don’t need to be falling apart to come see me. In fact, early intervention often means quicker results and fewer visits.
Whether it’s chiropractic care, shockwave therapy, postural correction, therapeutic massage, or just a fresh look at what’s bothering you—there are simple steps we can take. And if it turns out I’m not the right fit for your particular issue? I’ll point you in the right direction.
So maybe it’s time to stop waiting for your body to “figure it out.” Let’s make your health less of a last-minute scramble.
Even Thomas Jefferson knew deadlines mattered.
Feeling like something’s off? Don’t wait until it’s due tomorrow.
