Back Pain Treatment in Dallas
Back pain can affect so many aspects of everyday life. You bend down to pick something up, sit through a long commute, tackle a weekend of yard work, or simply get out of bed and feel that familiar ache return. Sometimes there’s an obvious injury. Other times, the discomfort builds slowly until normal movement starts feeling like work.
Why Back Pain Rarely Has One Simple Cause
The lower back handles a lot of the load that comes with standing, lifting, bending, and twisting. Pain may involve the joints, discs, surrounding muscles, or more than one structure at the same time.
When a disc or nerve is irritated, symptoms can extend beyond the back itself. Pain may travel into the buttock, hip, thigh, leg, or foot as sciatica, sometimes accompanied by numbness, tingling, or weakness.
What Tends to Push Back Pain Past the Occasional Ache
Back pain isn’t always caused by one thing. Everyday habits, physical demands, and old injuries can all play a role. These include:
- Heavy lifting or repetitive bending with poor mechanics
- Long stretches of sitting at a desk or during travel
- Yard work, sports, or sudden increases in activity
- Weak or poorly conditioned core and hip muscles
- Accidents or falls that strain the back and surrounding tissues
- Gradual wear and tear from everyday activity
Prolonged sitting is a particularly common factor. Rather than trying to hold one “perfect” posture all day, changing positions and moving regularly may be more useful for some people.
The Different Ways Back Pain Can Show Up
Lower back pain doesn’t look the same for every patient. Some people hurt most while sitting, while others have more trouble standing, walking, bending, getting out of a chair, or rolling over in bed. Muscle spasms, restricted movement, and sacroiliac or pelvic discomfort can also occur.
An Exam Focused on What’s Behind the Pain
At your first visit, Dr. Chuck Kobdish will want to know how your pain started, what makes it better or worse, whether you’ve experienced similar problems before, and what you’d like to be able to do more comfortably.
Your examination may include posture, spinal and pelvic movement, range of motion, muscle assessment, orthopedic testing, and neurological checks of strength, sensation, and reflexes when appropriate. Work activities, exercise, sitting habits, previous injuries, and the way your symptoms respond to different movements may also provide useful clues.
If your findings suggest that imaging, medical evaluation, or another type of care would be a better next step, that will be discussed with you.
Treatment Based on What We Find
Having “back pain” doesn’t automatically put you on a predetermined treatment schedule at BackMenders-Chiropractic With Care. Care is based on your examination findings, health history, symptom severity, comfort level, and goals.
Depending on your needs, treatment may include Diversified chiropractic adjusting, Thompson Table-Assisted care, spinal mobilization, therapeutic exercise, stretching, soft tissue work, or other supportive treatment modalities.
Non-surgical spinal decompression may be considered for certain patients with disc-related lower back pain or sciatica-type symptoms. For selected patients with a significant soft tissue, tendon, or muscular component, radial shockwave therapy may also be an option.
As you improve, your treatment plan can change too. The goal isn’t to keep providing the same adjustment visit after visit, but to help restore more comfortable movement and address factors that may be playing a role in recurring symptoms.
Small Changes Can Matter Between Visits
What you do outside the office may be part of your game plan as well. Recommendations depend on your particular problem and stage of recovery but could include walking, mobility work, gentle stretching, core or hip strengthening, changes to your sitting position, or better lifting mechanics.
Rather than handing everyone the same long list of exercises, Dr. Kobdish prefers recommendations that make sense for the individual patient.
Don’t Let Back Pain Become Your New Normal
Back pain doesn’t always mean something is seriously damaged, but persistent or recurring discomfort shouldn’t simply become something you learn to live with. Whether your pain started yesterday or has been hanging around for months, an evaluation can help identify what may be contributing to it and which next steps make sense.
